Sometimes big problems can come in small packages, like a glut of grainy grit plaguing Georgia’s largest wastewater treatment facility.

To help the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management deal with a chronic grit removal issue at the RM Clayton Water Reclamation Center, a design-build team comprising Brown and Caldwell, Western Summit and Anatek went to work, devising a collaborative plan to mitigate the harmful effects of grit accumulation and treatment degradation.

The result was a long-term grit solution achieved through a sustainable, cost-saving design that beat its delivery deadline by 18 months.
