An 8½-year, $114 million Phase 2 upgrade at the Littleton/Englewood Wastewater Treatment Plant was recently completed, ahead of the State of Colorados mandated compliance schedule and nearly $2 million under budget. The new facilities are effectively providing treatment and will provide additional capacity for the next two decades.
Engineers from Brown and Caldwell saved the cities over $2 million as a result of minimal change orders during the design and construction of the Phase 2 project that began in 2001.

The utility satisfied two state-mandated requirements: (1) reduce nitrate levels in treated effluent discharged into the South Platte River, and (2) increase its capacity to meet the communitys growth projections. The project also repaired and improved much of the facilitys aging infrastructure. The complex construction was completed with daily interruptions to the plants existing operations, however there were zero permit violations existing treatment was never compromised.

The state-of-the-art facility also includes several innovative features that help to optimize plant performance, ensure affordable sewage treatment and embody environmental stewardship principles.
