Use of 30 inches of granular activated carbon in dual-media filtration provides effective taste and odor control at the Lemoore Naval Station’s new 10-mgd water treatment plant. The decision to employ this method was dictated by the fact that the source of water is the California Aqueduct, involving a considerable distance of travel through long stretches of open channels. This suggested the possibility of unusual algae-induced taste and odor problems.
