An analysis of equalization-neutralization basins for pH control has been developed. The method permits the design of equalization-neutralization facilities based on cost optimization. The trade-off is between the quantity of chemicals required for neutralization and the detention time of the basin needed to achieve either a fixed or a specified range in effluent pH.
