For seven years, the 150-MGD Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (SRWTP) has disposed of all its solids on site. The SRWTP is a pure-oxygen, activated sludge secondary treatment plant with anaerobic digestion of primary and waste activated sludges. The sludge treatment and disposal techniques used after the anaerobic digestion process were conceived, developed, and tested over a five-year period. This paper discusses and quantifies the results of development and testing, the design criteria, construction and other capital costs, and operation and maintenance experience and costs.
