After her internships with Texaco Environmental Services and at the environmental engineering lab at Arizona State University, you can say, you can say water resources professional engineer Lisa Skutecki grew up at BC. After 22 years, Lisa achieved many of her career milestones with the mentoring and help of the company’s leaders and industry experts. It’s these lessons learned within BC’s supportive culture that she wants to share through co-leading BC’s first Employee Networking Group, Women at BC.

“I’ve watched BC progress and evolve over the years, and we’ve always had that commitment to be there for everybody and to make sure they have the resources they need,” Lisa said. “Then when COVID hit, giving all the help, assistance, information, and showing true transparency that makes me feel cared for and knowing we all belong.”

Coming full circle from engineering padawan to professional Jedi isn’t the only reason she’s taken on co-leading the ENG. Last year, the group held a very honest discussion on sexual harassment at conferences that showed how impactful the ENG could be. “Being sexually harassed at conferences was pretty eye opening to talk about as a company,” she said. “And being able to share tips on a companywide platform in how I and others dealt with it and talking to Rising Professionals about situations that they may encounter and strategies to stay safe really mattered to me.”

In her new role as ENG co-lead, Lisa also plans to help amplify the group’s reach and make it easier to take advantage of the company’s partnership with Catalyst, an empowerment and education nonprofit. Lisa is also equally passionate about educating the public about stormwater as a water supply resource through the California Stormwater Quality Association. When she’s not busy volunteering, she’s also a DJ.

“It’s a big growing experience when you get involved and have these challenging discussions. It helps you understand that Brown and Caldwell is there for you and does support you.”
