The activated sludge process is one of the most commonly employed sewage and industrial waste treatment processes. However, increasingly stringent water quality standards are demanding effluents of consistently low turbidity, a condition the process may fail to meet for a variety of reasons. This paper explores one of the causes for high effluent turbidity and suggests ways and means for improving effluent clarity.
