Stege Sanitary District (Stege) is located on the east shore of San Francisco Bay in the cities of El Cerrito and Kensington and part of the City of Richmond. Stege was founded in 1913 and provided wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal service until 1972, when Stege was annexed into East Bay Municipal Utility District's Special District No. 1 (SD 1). Stege now owns and operates 140 miles of wastewater collection system and discharges to SD 1's interceptors, which convey wastewater from Stege and six other communities to a regional wastewater treatment plant in Oakland.
