The activated sludge process is one of the most commonly employed domestic and industrial waste treatment processes. However, increasingly stringent water quality standards are demanding effluents of consistently low turbidity, a condition the activated sludge process may fail to meet for a variety of reasons. This paper explores one of the causes for high effluent turbidity and suggests an in-process modification designed to improve effluent clarity.
