An important aspect of pipeline condition assessment is to obtain a complete understanding of the condition of the pipe, including the soil condition surrounding it. Previously, pipeline condition assessments included taking random soil borehole samples along the pipeline alignment. Borehole sampling is a costly, time consuming and destructive testing method that may or may not provide an accurate picture of the soil condition throughout the pipeline section and can itself lead to further deterioration. Seismic Testing Technologies are an inexpensive, non-destructive methodology which wil allow design engineers to identify loose or voided soils around sewers.
