The city of Sunnyvale, Calif., encompasses 22.5 sq m (58.5 sq km) and is the fifth largest city in the San Francisco Bay area. The city maintains and operates one wastewater treatment plant that provides treatment by primary sedimentation and oxidation ponds. The average daily flow through the existing facilities was about 16 mgd during 1974. Figure 1 is an aerial photo of the existing facilities.
