Brown and Caldwell assisted in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Environmental Healthy & Safety (EHS) program for a company comprised of 17 subsidiaries with a total of nearly 400 facilities. The auditing program focused on reducing the number of environmental violations and safety-related incidents and identifying and communicating best management practices throughout the organization. In addition to working with the client to develop and manage the program, BC performed more than 150 facility benchmarking audits per year over a 3-year period. The types of facilities included sand and gravel mines, aggregate quarries and associated plants, ready-mix concrete facilities, concrete block plants, cement plants, and precast concrete plants. BC also participated in internal EHS manager planning and training conferences with client personnel. The results of the auditing program measurably improved the company’s environmental and safety record, resulting in a dramatic drop in incidents and violations and saving tens of thousands of dollars.
