Smart Utility
Enabling utilities with the tools for connectivity, flexibility, digitalization, and empowerment to optimize operations and customer service
Due to budget constraints and a shrinking workforce, today’s water utilities need to streamline their systems to collect and understand operational data to help them make informed decisions around planning for capital investments, improving customer service, and reducing operators’ training requirements. Brown and Caldwell’s unique approach to smart utility implementation is designed specifically for our water clients and based on proven results.
Our approach, developed and implemented by industry-leading experts, goes beyond basic data-driven decision making to enable a new utility paradigm in which utilities are proactively managed to reach optimal operational efficiency. The approach is flexible, so it can be applied to utilities of any size. The services and solutions build upon one another, at a pace that matches organizational readiness and resources, providing higher returns at each succeeding step. Ultimately this empowers our clients’ operators and managers with a powerful set of tools and associated processes, user-friendly interfaces, improved data quality, and Artificial Intelligence-enhanced analytics to achieve unprecedented utility performance.
BC Blue: Real-Time Non-Revenue Water
Reducing Costs and Improving Utility Asset Management
BC Blue is implementing the latest smart utility technology to facilitate enhanced levels of non-revenue water (NRW) by using real-time monitoring. BC Blue’s Digital Water Strategy Lead, Michael Karl, Digital Water Lead, Jacob Young, and Integration Solution Lead, Dennis Mulacek, show us how real-time NRW differs from traditional approaches and helps utilities respond to changes to NRW as they happen. This approach helps eliminate unnecessary operating costs, capture lost revenue, identify and manage leaks before they become costly breaks, and potentially defer plant upgrades or additional water resource needs.
“There is nothing more rewarding than creating breakthroughs with our clients by leveraging a smart utility approach. Helping integrate technology isn’t just about implementing new technology for technology sake, it is about harnessing technology in a sustainable way so that it is aligned to current and future demands.”
